Prior to joining Northwestern Mutual, Mike served our country as a United States Naval Officer. He was commissioned through the Officer Candidate program in Pensacola, FL in the fall of 1981. He went on to flight school and was subsequently assigned to various squadrons flying the A-6E Intruder from 4 carrier decks with deployment to the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, Caribbean, and Mediterranean Sea. In Mike's final squadron tour, he served as Department Head and Executive Officer of Attack Squadron 36, where he was an Air Wing Strike Leader, flying combat operations in Iraq and Bosnia. Shore assignments included a 2 year tour with the Blue Angels, Director of Training for all east coast Intruder replacement crews, and assignment to the Joint Chiefs of Staff as Principal Political/Military Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs on Iraq, Iran, and Oman. Mike rounded out his Naval career with 8 years of service in the active reserve forces, retiring as a Commander with twenty years of total service. During his career, Mike received numerous personal and unit commendations.
Mike graduated from Wesleyan University in 1981 with a degree in Political Science and Economics. Mike is a member of the National Association of Underwriters as well as a qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He also received the National Quality Award, recognizing his dedication to clients. Mike is also committed to various Christian, civic, and charitable organizations including Network Ministries, The Make-A-Wish Foundation, The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Mike is an in demand speaker to various industry groups.
Mike and his wife, Chrystal, have been married for 20 years and live in Marietta, GA with their 2 children, Jack (16) and Jane (12).
